Yeah, I saw that you wrote that, I realize that you meant just for the filter. I wanted to do it in the tank because no matter how many times I drained and refilled it there would always be a little water left, and I wanted to kill anything lurking in there. Moxie's tank is an All-glass, and Napoleon's is indeterminate. It doesn't have any kind of label or marking, and I got it free from a coworker so it could be 20 years old for all I know. We're going to measure and see if it'll fit under Michael's desk. If it does we'll cover the crack with sealant and fix it up for Shenanigans.

The salt or bleach ideas are worth trying out. Excessively hot water can't be good for the filter long-term. Glass sometimes doesn't show any problems until it cracks, so I think SpotsMama has a good point. I'm glad no one was hurt!
