so i have been building a turtle pond in my basement ant its a pre formed pond and then a large sturdy box made of 2x6s and heavy duty plywood, the idea is to place the pond in the box and the fill in around it with sand to support the weight of the water and create a land area. my question is do i have to buy sand or can i get from the beach or something as it will be quite a bit of sand?

so you want to put sand on the top around the outside of the pond? i would say buy it from the store because sand from the beach is dirty and has bugs and other creatures in it, not to mention garbage and stuff. that's just my opinion tho. maybe someone else has a more educated response for u :P

If you do go that route, make sure you clean the sand VERY well, and don't get that ZooMED calcium sand.
