General Care Discussion :: My turtle has hiccups? Or something else?

My turtle has been acting strange. It started maybe 1-2 days ago and it starting to worry me. He's around a month old and he's doing some very odd. What he does it that he goes to the surface breathes a bit then he starts biting the water and makes bubbles and makes a noise. I don't really know how to make it a bit clearer for you guys.

Is he eating normally and basking? Is he breathing with his mouth open, esp in the water?

My turtle does a similar weird thing, where he munches on the water surface or under water, he appears to be eating the water. I'm not worried, he's done it since I got him. He's just a little odd ...

Your turtle is likely just being a screwball, so I wouldn't worry about it (unless he's visibly breathing with his mouth open or mucus or mucus bubbles are coming from his nose). Just keep an eye on him to make sure no other symptoms appear.

If he's still eating and swimming I think it's fine. My turtle bites at water to, and likes to bite bubbles the filter makes.

Mine does this from time to time too. I noticed it only does it on the ramp. But yeah I'm not worried because it seems very healthy.

If it looks like there just bobing their head it because he may be trying to breath with his throat against his shell mine do that.

Yeah mine used to bob when he was really small because he'd get air in his body...it was funny!
