General Care Discussion :: moving the habitat

So my turtles have been settling in to their new habitat in Hollywood, which I keep revising as I learn more about them.

Later this month I have a commitment to house-sit and take care of a sick dog in Pasadena, forty minutes away - I'll have to live there for three weeks.

I want to keep the turtles close but don't want to stress them out, especially so soon after having escaped the movie set where they were props. I'm temped to drain the water, put them in a carrier and bring the whole thing with me, and then do the same thing again when the dog's owners come home. I don't mind the hassle, but do you think it will be bad for them to be moving around so much? I could come out every other day to feed them, and put their lights on a timer, but I don't like the idea of leaving them alone.

Whatever is easiest for you. Since it is a long-term move (somewhat...) it's not unreasonable to bring the turtles with you. But, if you have the time and means to see them at your house, that is good too. You can get timers for the lights, and feed them every two or three days. I hate leaving my turtles unattended even for the weekend, so I understand your concern, but they should be fine if you opt to leave them.

If you do decide to bring them, read over the transportation link, it has good info on transporting turtles. It's how I moved my turtle from NY to Colorado.
