Hi everyone,

Well, i live in the Houston area and we are preparing for Ike and I was wondering, If the electricity goes out, what can I do to help the water and basking temperatures stay warm. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

We lost power during a really bad storm last month for a few days and I took Izzy outside to get some sun. I also noticed that her water got reeeeally cold so in the morning I would just add a little warm to it until it was in the normal temp range.

If you do lose power, you can wrap the tank up so that it's not losing as much heat. When I lived on a frigid third floor apartment, I put towels around my tank and covered it at night to help keep things stable and it worked pretty well. Water is a pretty good insulator.
Other than that, you can add warm water as allison said.

K-Falsh & All-chains -- I went through harricane Alicia in 1983 and the water temp was not a problem. I was worring about keeping cool. I half emptied out the tank andI kept a couple of 5 gallon buckets of good water and added a little each day until the electric came back on. Most days I took them out to sun and dry off. The electric was off for 7 days. Good Luck!!

lol, i used to have to insulate my tank in the winter becasue my room at my mom's wouldn't get any warmer than 58 or so. the heater was broken :/

They say this one is moving up the coast towards Houston. Are you guys staying or evacuating?
