General Care Discussion :: Shedding skin in a new tank?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Hello.

Well, I recently transferred my 4 inch RES into a new, much bigger tank. Since then, he's been shedding quite a bit more skin than usual. I cleaned out the tank pretty well before I filled it and put my turtle in. I also used Reptisafe to treat the water and put a calcium supplement into the water. There is also a running filter in the tank, with newly replaced carbon and sponges. Is there something about the new tank that might be causing my turtle to shed like this? Any advice on what I should do?

Thanks a bunch.[/b]

I always keep the water temperature around 80 degrees. Usually somewhere between 75 and 82.

Why would the temperature of the water have an effect on his skin?

if the water is too warm it causes them to shed more than they should.
