General Care Discussion :: Hanging around the dock but not Basking

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Wed Sep 17, 2008 3:24 am   Hanging around the dock but not Basking

The title speaks for itself. My RES Hatchling has been in accustomed to his new enviroment from what i see. Hes been eating. Shell looks normal. My basking temp is around mid 90's and my water temp is about 78-80F. I've searched for hours looking for some info, but really cant find the answer im looking for. Basically he just grabs the end of the dock, and just floats there.

Any ideas or suggestions you think why he's doing this?

Thanks

Could you describe your setup? What size tank is it, and do you have both UVA and UVB lights? How long have you had your turtle?

I say this all the time ... but do you know for sure that he is not basking. Maybe he does it when you are not looking . My Turtle likes to hang on his ramp as well, but he does bask .
Please excuse any spelling and/or grammatical errors. I'm dyslexic.I do my best!

@ Smurf : I have a 10 gallon tank with heater, filter, and Zoomed dock. I do have the UVA and UVB lights. I've it for about a week now.

@Joey: I've kept a pretty good eye on. I even secretly watch him from afar and still hangs around with his head above the water.

Lantic -- Sounds like he getting on track and basking. I might suggest that you drop the water temp about 2 degrees. They like the temp. difference. Good Luck -- b.

Alrigth thanks!

I've been reading on the best ways to reduce temperature so i'll be trying out the ice cubs in the bag or frozen bottle of water.

I'm located in Southern California. My room gets around high 80's in the summer due to computers/servers.

I think he wants more privacy. Cover the front and sides and give him a few hours to concentrate :)
