My wife and I found an apartment! This means that since our habitat has increased so will Mitchell's! (He's a RES) Hooray! Since he's at about 2.5 inches I can get him out of the 10 gallon tank and into a 40 gallon tank like he deserves!
Yay, for him!

My question is what is the best way to transport him in a move? We're only moving about 5 miles away but I want to give him as little stress as possible. He's adjusted well to captivity and will even eat from my hand now and then...but he's still very aggressive to anything new in the tank (living or non-living).

Also he is currently in a quiet room that doesn't see much traffic but that will change in the new place, so since that is going to stress him already I want the move to be as gentle as possible on his nerves.

Any suggestions?

That link should pretty much cover everything. You're not moving too far so a safe container with a towel to bury himself in should be sufficient. The big thing to watch is temperature. You don't want him to overheat or be exposed to drafts.

As for the change in atmosphere, there are a few things you can do. I would cover the sides of the tank where he basks, that way he feels like he has some privacy.

Good luck with the move!
