ah what if i, (seeing as the tank has a base on it) position the heat lamp underneath the base to heat the bottom and use a towel over the top to keep the heat in. that way he will stay warm and out of the light. i think that may be the answer.

Well, what about one of those red bulbs? I know you said you don't have cash untill wed. but they are pretty cheap, could you scratch up $6 or $7 dollars?

sounds like a plan. for tonight ive given him a hat which he has gone to sleep under away from the heatlamp. so the heat lamp is keeping him warm and the hat has acted as a hiding place for him. he seems really happy under there. i got the idea from him liking being inside my dressing gown. but i will check on him during the night.
