Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

how many gallons can your fluval filter handle? since you have a 50 gallon, your filter should be double the amount since turtles produce a lot of waste. so for example, you should get a filter that can filter 100gph (gallons per hour).

do you have a heater? i could add some aquatic plants like anarcharis (they're healthy for them to eat & you could introduce them to some veggies). you also might want to eventually get them a better/bigger basking area. overall, i think the tank is awesome :D

Great upgrade! :)
I would say you need a bigger filter, even without knowing what your first filter was. At 50 gallons, you'll want to look into something in the Rena XP3 range (or equivalent). It'll keep your current tank nice and clean, and it'll do a fine job in any future upgrades.

You may also need a new/bigger heater. That depends on your room temperature though. If your room temp is usually around 76-78, then that will be just fine. Make sure you're monitoring the water and basking temps for the first little bit to make sure they're in good ranges.

I agree with Francine, you may in the not too distant future need a larger basking area, but as long as they can both comfortable get up there, and be able to completely dry off (top and bottom), then you'll be OK for a while.

they have no problem basking in that area as they are still young and some so dun occupied lots of space. when they got bigger i will sure upgrade the platform :) i understand that point. filter wise i guess i really need to search for one tomorrow. there isnt many pet store which sell reptile product in my country (singapore) as i think RES keeping is not so popular here, as in the correct method like what i am learning now. hmm....will upgrade filter as soon as possible :) temperature wise is ok as my heater hardly got activated (it's auto ). my room temperature usually always stay around 76-78.

thanks for the suggestion and comments!!

You might want a different basking area because it takes up alot of swimming space.. But you do have a 50G so its alright for now.. Can you post more pics of ur setup?

you could always look in a regular pet store & check their fish filters. certain strong fish filter can also be used for RES. i plan on buying an HOB (hang on back) filter, Marineland Penguin 350 for my 20 gallon long.

because of the way your tank is setup & made, perhaps a canister filter would be best for your tank (although it is expensive).

& again because of the way you tank is made & setup, a zoom dock or platform would be good, or you can make your own out of plexiglass (since that would look nicer in your tank).

may i suggest a few edible plants held down by your river rocks? so that they can learn to eventually eat their veggies. to find certain edible aquatic plants, you can look in Food/Nutrition forum.
