first, try and find or get a dullish pocket knife with a good point. this way you wont accidentaly slice your fingers but make sure its not too dul that you cant slip the edge under some of the cracks that may be there.
second since its probably going to break anyway try and break it in half. hey your turtle probably doesnt need it all at once anyway. i have managed to almost get it whole but... yeah it failed
this also can give you a more reasonable work space while creating some spaces to slip your knife under.
lastly, just go at it like its a chunk of wood. slivering off peices one at a time. and Take your time. practice makes perfect!
yeah and i realize that this is what many people may or may not have already been doing but i thought i'd throw it on there for newer turtle owners ( and maybe some older!)
anyway this works best for me but you dont have to use it!
oh p.s. try and stay away from serated knives... i find it akes the task almost impossible
