Hi all,

I just cleaned my 70 Gl tank for the first time and am experimenting with feeding my turts in a seperate container to maintain water quality. I would keep them in there tank when feeding but I don't think I have ever seen or, don't know if I have seen them "shat" after feeding.

Wierd request, I know but would it be possible for someone to post a pic of turtle waste? Or maybe describe it? A google search returns no results.

LMAO! Turtle "shat" is usually a little log, or if their sick maybe some green undigested lettuce will come out.. I don't have any pics sorry.

I don't have any pics, but the only time I've seen anything, it looked like a little Mr. Hanky the color of the pellets, which were ReptoMin, so greenish.

I know that his sounds like the dumb question what it a good one. The only time I saw turtle pooh was when the turts where really small, so the poohed out just litte logs. They like of look like the Repo sticks .

But one time I saw something that was long and this. i think it was pooh , but it could have been a some type of worm. I came on hereand asked and know one knew what the heck I was talking about .. than when I went back to the tank it was gone .

They can be bigger or smaller, depending on the size of the turtle. This little log is about the size of a pinkie nail, and about as thick around as a pinkie finger

yeah my turt dropped a big one today.. like the size of half of my pinky in length and width.

Poo, Doo or Shat -- Largely depends on what your turtles eat. Usually, if it is meat oriented, it is loose. If you use pellets it is harder. Each turtle have different bacteria in it's gut and is different. If you are not seeing much, they may be eating it. They do that!! m.

thanks everyone for the replies, especially the pics.

I have been keeping two hatchling turts now for about a month and had never witnessed them do the deed until (ironically) i posted the topic. I just chalked it up to, they were just getting used to their new home and maybe were stressed a little even though they were feeding regularly.

The pics also confirm what the waste looks like after a few days. I have some of the same fecal matter on the top of my sand but thought that it was the driftwood shedding it's bark or something.

I know it sounded like a dumb question, but it was a genuine one. I appreciate all the responses.

I think my turtles eat their own shat also because it took me a whole month to locate just one dropping. Does this mean that I am not feeding them enough? Or do they just like to eat it?

Most turtles eat their own 'nuggets.' Some say they are trying to absorb nutrience their bodies may have missed the first time through. Personally I think my turtle is just trying to gross me out so I give him my people food. :[

okay I have been wondering the same question for a while.
Ever since I have gotten this turtle he has always has green flaky poop.....only maybe twice have I seen a tootsie roll looking thing. So does that mean he is unhealthy or what??? He is a 12in round or so turtle....

My other turtle about 6in round has like crumby looking poop.......

So what is normal?

Most likely because your feeding him lettuce or leafy greens. Also could be sign of infection but i doubt it.
