General Care Discussion :: Hooray! I found a scute!

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Wed Nov 05, 2008 3:46 pm   Hooray! I found a scute!

I cleaned out Frankie's filter yesterday, and found a scute!

Ok, so it's tiny, but it's progress! It's the first scute I've found after 10 months! I'm pretty sure it's from her plastron. Nothing from her carapace yet, but hopefully by this time next year, she'll have a shiny new shell!

It looks like it might be from the carapace actually, or one of the side scutes.

I'm pretty sure it's not from the carapace, since it's yellow in colour, and not brown (hard to tell from the pic). My first thought was one of the side scutes as well, though I didn't know if there was a proper name of them :P Either way, it's just a piece of the scute, not the whole thing.
