General Care Discussion :: Is it bad for my RES?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I've noticed that when I don't clean the tank for about 2 weeks, these weird things appear in my tank. They're these weird clear slimy things with small white dots. It looks like a clear 7mm pond snail with white close (very close apart) dots. The dots are really small, maybe a diameter of 3/4mm. I also see them in my snail tank.

Does anyone know what they are? Are they good or bad for fish/RES/snails? They sometimes 'interact' with the snails.

Other questions/things:
Do all RES's try to catch prey? (I have rosy red minnows in my tank.)
Squeesh & Squash : )

First, just keep your tank clean and you won't need to worry about them. They are probably harmless, but anything you can minimize is best.

And no, not all RES try to catch prey. We have quite a few resident turtles on the board that have rosie reds peacefully living with the RES.

mine have always eaten any fish i put in the tank within a month tops...but i put a cichlid (sp?) in a year ago and he's still chillin with the turtles....i've actually caught the cichlid several times "play attacking" (like what a cat does to a dog) the turtles and the run away from the fish....it's kind of amusing :)

Solo wont eat the rosies, he chases them away but not even a nip at any of them. He eats just about everything else though. Wouldnt come near me a week ago, now he'll rest on my chest and nibble at veggies.

He's a trip.

Also, get an inexspensive syphon pump. Its made my tank cleaning so easy.

My turtle wll eat rosie reds in a heart beat. i had a chiclid for a while, but she ate that too one night (so mad, that was a cool fish) and i think she just ate the last goldfish (it was HUGEEE)
it depends. in my tank some fish last months and months and others go in days. its slightly annoying.
