Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

So my i was walking past my tank and I noteced Pee-wee my male res at the bottom of the tank acting weird. I began to see something coming out his rear end and curling under his belly. I dont know if it is his penis or what because does not look like one to me. I thought he was pooping he would close his eyes and seem to push, then while it was coming out his head was goin in his shell. Now i also have a female in the tank and he has been fluttering at her and sniffing her behind. Could this be part of him wanting to mate? What ever was coming out of him was huge and strange looking it would like spread out its hard to describe. Has anyone ever experence this in any way.

was the "thing" black? if so, your turtle just showed you his jewels! if it was pink, however, could be his intestines (which points to other concerns). the penis-showing part is normal. UNLESS he forgets to put it back inside, then theres nothing to worry about.

if he is fanning and fluttering at your female turtle, he may be sexual mature to reproduce. although this could be part of his mating ritual, it could also be a sign of aggressiveness. also, there is a member on this forum that had one of her turtles bite the turtle's penis while he was fanning. ouch :X

are you sure that the other turtle is a female? if so, are you prepared for eggs? you may want to consider separating them because males are known to harass females.

Here's a decent photo. I think I remember another one, but this was the one I could find. Does it look like this? I warn that it's graphic!

If he begins on your female, she may become unresponsive and attack him. Also, obviously you'll have the morality of potentially fertilized eggs to deal with. If this doesn't sound like fun, I'd separate them immediately.
