General Care Discussion :: Oil...

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Thu Nov 27, 2008 5:58 pm   Oil...

Sometimes, I put canned fish in the tank. The oil from the fish gets in the water..o.o Is the water still okay for my turtles? Is oil okay for turtles? o.o Since the water has oil in it, can they still drink it? Or will I have to change the water after every time I feed them canned fish? o.o

Thanks in advance.

not sure if the oil is harmful but some people suggest a water change if there are a lot of food remnants left in your water.

for precaution, feed your turtle in another enclosure (like a plastic box).

well that oil your leaving in there might be a problem, you wouldnt want to have that oil on you rug its just an excuse for bacteria and nasty stuff to grow try to feed your turt in a little shoe box rubbermaid thats what i do and i dont have to play a guessing game really i would rather be safe than sorry.

You should not feed fish in oil to your turts. It`s unhealthy for them, just like it is for us.
Look for fish canned in water (it will say so on the tin).
Also keep in mind that any sort of fish is considered a treat, and should not be feed more than once a month.

I agree w/ bulldog...wouldn't overdo the canned fish, it's alot of protien. And you should probably get fish packed in water. I get tuna for myself packed in water all the time. It's alittle lower in fats.
