General Care Discussion :: How long to shed?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I've been reading on here, and I have upped her cuttlebone (as if she needs any more :p) I'm giving her apple skins, sweet potato... I've read to give her blueberries but lets be honest... it is nearly winter and I'm not spending $5 for a few blueberries. I've got her UVB and UVA, she basks plenty... I don't really see much wrong, but to me, it looks like she wants to shed!

She has 2 layers of retained scutes that were there since I've had her and that makes me want her to shed even more. I guess I'm just impatient.

Here is her shell as of last week...

I can put my fingernail under the edges of them... so I assume that means they want to come off! I'm just afraid I am doing something wrong :( I swear I'm seeing a third layer of retained scutes, and the pictures bring it out even more meaning I've done something wrong :(

Simba looks very calm and nice. Is she extra friendly? I don't know much about shedding and such so I don't want to give you bad advice.
She looks healthy to me ;)

Oh she is very friendly! When I read about some turtles I wonder whats wrong with mine being ms social :p Pop cans and purple are another issue though ;)

She always goes up to new people and she lets you pet her and give her little back scratches and rub under her chin when she basks, like a little puppy ;) Though not on top of her head then :P

Sorry, I gush :P

funny my social one of the two lets me pet her on her head (only when she in the water and she sticks her head out) ... I would love if she would let me pet her out of the water and under her chin.

Simba has the look of a very friendly turtle. Your a lucky turtle owner ;)

it looks like she's got a way to go for a shed. whatever you do though do not pull the scutes off or help them pop off. it can cause more harm than good.

I agree with Daniel. You're doing everything right. It's just a waiting game :)
