General Care Discussion :: Can you get your money make from the Vet ?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Tue Nov 25, 2008 7:45 pm   Can you get your money make from the Vet ?

I just had the worst Vet Trip ever .Now I am really worried about my pet.

First First I take him in for some white marks on his back and the fact that he is hiding alot. S/he keeps him overnight ...Just to tell me this.

My turtle has a neurological problem, they can tell because how he puts his head to the side...But Doctor......He is a DANG pink-belly SIDE-NECK where else is his neck going to go?

Like his one seen here.

They would not call them side necks if there necks did not go to the side .

Next S/he was not sure if the white spots were a fungus are not . But they put some crap on it anyway. So in other words they are making me pay for a medication that my turtle may or may not need .WOW .

Next the cost. I called and they said 20 bucks, but they charged me for the cream and a shot that they did not ask if they could give .

I mean what the heck, if something happens to my turtle they are going to pay, not just money but I will make sure that they don't hurt anyone else's animal .

BTW the reason the I keep typing s/he is becuase the doctor did not even come out to talk to me , it just sent its aid .

PS I know it is a lot of typos I can not type well when I am this upset. sorry.

that really sucks, sorry to there that joey :(

sounds like your vet isn't too specialized in aquatic turtles. funny how they said he has a problem because of how he puts his neck to the side. like you said: where the hell else is a side-neck going to put it?

and its not cool how they treated your turtle without your consent. ya think you can say something to them about that?

Oh I forgot to add this . I keep using s/he becuase the vet never came out to talk to me about things. I mean isn't normal for the vet him or herself to talk to you for at least a minute? They just sent their aids to talk to me.

Seriously. complain. I will not be satisfied till i hear some story about how you showed them who's boss ;)

I apologize for saying this, joey, but you need to stand up for yourself. Your vet cannot perform medical work without consent from you. You shouldn't have left your turtle there either. This all should have sent out your "spidy-sense" and said something doesn't seem right.

However, what's done is done. I think you can demand your money back, esp. for things you didn't consent to. As for shady business practices, contact the BBB (Better Business Bureau) to tattle on them. You can also contact the AMVA for them to look into it.

I would go and get your turtle in the morning and look for a different vet.

You are right Dr.Jax . You know that is a theme with me, not having courage .

And I have him back now,he does not look different and he was as active normal.

But I am going to write a the BBB, I think that would be best. I mean if she did not know that some turtles are side necks than he does not need to be working on turtles it is as simple as that .

They want me to bring him back on Saturday but I am not .The want him to get one more shot, I don't know if he needs it are not to off set the first one they gave him.

This is my letter to the BBB.

Hello,

I recently took my pet turtle to a vet , name Pet Care in Greenwood South Carolina. I took him in just for a check up ,but with out my knowledge he was given a shot of ……. ., which I was charged for. Moreover the vet never talked to me in person about anything ,and via the workers the vet displaied a lack of knowlegal about my animal. My turtle is a Pink-Belly Side-neck. This means that he naturally bens his neck to the side like in the picture I have included. However the vet contributed this natural function to a neurological disorder. In terms of animals that most people know this would be like a vet saying a because a Greyhound does not have the same body type as a Doberman
Something must be wrong.

I think I should get my money back ,while the Vet did look at my turtle it does not seem like he or she was qualified to do so.

Quick question, what was the shot the vet's assistants gave? Was it a vitamin A shot?

Here I've corrected some spelling and grammar and changed a sentence for you, oh, and make sure you include the vet's name in the letter. I can understand your discretion on the board, but the letter should have it in there, and you don't have to accept my changed sentence, I just thought it made a little more sense:

Hello,

I recently took my pet turtle to a vet, name Pet Care in Greenwood South Carolina. I took him in just for a check up, but without my knowledge, he was given a shot of ……, which I was billed for. Moreover, the vet never spoke to me in person about anything and only interacted via the workers. The vet displayed a lack of knowledge about my animal. My turtle is a Pink-Belly Side-neck Turtle, which means that he naturally bends his neck to the side like in the picture I have included. However, the vet contributed this natural function to a neurological disorder. In terms of animals that most people know, this would be like a vet saying a because a Terrier is shorter than a German Shepherd, their growth is stunted.

I think I should get my money back. Even though the Vet did look at my turtle, it does not seem like he or she was qualified to do so.

Thank you for taking the time to read this,

Joey- you're not even certain a vet looked at your turtle.
I'd go back and demand my money back. You certainly weren't treated correctly. Frankly, it sounds like a shady place, and I wouldn't continue doing business with them.
The advice to contact the AVMA is very good- they take things like that very seriously. And a reprimand from them means much more to a vet than the BBB making them refund you. Vets like that shouldn't be allowed to practive and endanger so many animals.

I agree with everyone else. Joey, the way you and your turtle were treated was pretty shabby. I'm glad you are going to report that vet - he/she shouldn't be giving advise to people and charging them for it.

Just wondering but did you go to vet that is specialized in exotics or just a normal vet???
If it was not a vet that specialized in exotics than that most likely to be you're biggest problem here.
