Hello my turtle does has these unidentified white marks on his back and he as had them for like months and I am not sure what they are. I was thinking about using Acriflavine but I am not sure .

Has anyone ever used this stuff before?
and did it work.

PS my turtle skin is shedding too.

What is it? I've never heard of it before. Have you asked us about the white marks before? I've been pretty busy and have probably missed a lot of threads. The treatment for them would depends on what's casuing them.
The skin shedding is nothing to worry about unless it's excessive.

Hmm yeah...we'll definitely need a clearer picture. Do you think it's shell rot? Do the spots have a different texture? Are they sunken in at all? Try to get a clearer picture for us.

It's hard to tell because the pics are so blurry. It might be shedding but it could be fungus. Is it possible to take a clearer picture? If not, just describe the spots.

I think that is the best that my cam is going to take .

They are under the water they are light brown and shinny , and when I take him out he they are almost the same color of his shell.. but when it dry it is whitish. There are not it does not have any pus or anything coming out of it, and it does not rub off .

Do they have a metallic look under water? It could be air bubbles trapped under loose scutes.

Have you tried googling different shell ailments and comparing pictures? Fungus versus shell rot have some distinct differences and since you can see the shell clearly, you'd be the best judge of what if anything is wrong.

Also, I looked up Acriflavine and it's an antiseptic. Does this mean that the vet thought the spots were shell rot? Did she say why she gave you the Acriflavine?

Yes but it is hard to tell bc his shell is different than most other turtles.

And was looking to pick up the Acriflavine myself. The vet I went too was not very good.. so even afer going to the vet I am still not sure what those spots are. I thinking that it could be air but I has been on there for a while .

Acriflavin treatment is one that is recommended on ATP, which is a well respected site. In your place, though, if I were going to treat I'd treat with silver sulfadiazine (SSD cream or Sulfadine) and hibiclense or chlorhexadine.

Are the white spots spreading - getting larger? Often fungus will spread slowly outward from the original infection, and at the same time new smaller spots will appear and they will also grow. At least, that's the way it was with my turtle.

How does his plastron look? Often the first place a shell infection shows up is on the plastron.

Has your turtle shed scutes? How long have the white spots been there?

I keep thinking that the spots have grown , but when I look at the old pictures I have took it does not seem like it. So it could be growing just very slowly so slow they I can not tell by comparing him to the pictures., or it is not growing and my eyes are playing tricks on me. I am assuming the latter .

For the most part his belly looks ok, it is a white line between the shell segments but I do not think it is fungus .

He has not sheded yet , and they have been there for around 2 months .

If it's fungus and if it's growing very slowly (and it is hard to tell because the pics are pretty blurry), then if it hasn't gone deep then it may shed off when your turtle sheds. I don't know about a sideneck, but a RES may not shed more than about once a year (more often when they are young). I suppose it would be similar with a sideneck.

Does is look like the spots are on the surface of the shell or are they eating down into the shell? Is the surface where it's white smooth or is it indented?

Acriflavin if used for fish, but as SpotsMama noted, ATP has mentioned as part of a treatment. I bought some years ago after reading that article because my turtle also had white spots.

It turned out to be fungus, but I never the Acriflavin treatment (because it goes into the water), but there are other options when dealing with fungus.
