my turtle keeps biting his dock constantly and it drives me nuts because i get little fragments everywhere, and im not too sure if its harmful or not, but i do feed him cuttlebone until he doesnt want anymore, but he still tries to eat the dock, but he only bites a certain area, the area hes been biting for months, i was thinking about taping off the little ramp area he bites, or would tape be harmful to them?

My female RES was biting the floating dock for about a month or so and then I bought her a piece of cuttlebone. The cuttlebone made more of a mess but was more "nutritious" and less dangerous than the dock. In fact, I have a large piece of granite which she nips at and "tells" me that she needs some more minerals. I occasionally give some cuttlebone and I haven't seen her bite the dock.

In this case, it seems like you might have to find a different style of dock that he can't bite. There are commercial acrylic ones, or you can build your own (check out the indoor habitats forum to see some ideas).
