General Care Discussion :: quick question regarding argulus

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Sun Dec 21, 2008 12:21 am   quick question regarding argulus

So I was giving my RES her monthly rosy red treat, and after putting them in the tank I noticed one of the fish had an argulus attached to it (needless to say I won't be buying feeders from this store anymore... it was a backup store anyways as my main one was closing.

I tried to hurry and fish the fish out, but as the net neared Koopa hit her mark. I know argulus is an external parasite that mainly effects fish but could the turtle encounter any problems from ingesting one?

Thanks for ya'lls time, and your help is much appreciated.

I don't know whether argulus infects turtles or not. Once it's been through the digestive tract of a turtle I doubt it would be much threat, but prior to that I don't know. I'd just watch for any signs of infestation. If there are any other fish in the tank, though, they will probably pick it up.

Thank you so much for your response.

I went and picked up a chitin inhibitor, just in case an infection breaks out. But the infected fish was only in the tank for about 15 seconds, so I'm hoping there won't be a problem.
