General Care Discussion :: my cat might have drank water from turtle tank

I was cleaning my filter in the bathtub, and 30 min later my cat went in the bathroom, she usually hops into the tub and drinks water. Could anything bad happen to her? Im freakin out!

she might have an upset stomach but i doubt anything serious would happen

so i shouldnt be worried about her getting any parasites or worms or something scary and disgusting

Your biggest risk is salmonella, which would show up in the form of an upset stomach. So keep an eye on the litter box and if you don't see anything unusual she's likely fine.
You can also call your vet and have them check a stool sample for you just to be sure.

Cats drink water from our outdoor pond where the turtle spends his summers and it hasn't made them sick.

This is just further evidence that typically, turtle water DOES NOT contain Salmonella and is perfectly safe. All the more reasons for those crazy news articles to be dismissed as "rare cases".
