General Care Discussion :: Ate My Ivy Plant!

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Tank took a bite (about 1/4 inch) out of my ivy plant, but I caught him before he could eat anymore. I'm sure he'll be fine, but do we have a list of plants that are poisonous for turtles?

I know with horses that they are too stupid to avoid eating tree leaves that will kill them and I hope it's not the same with RES.

I believe with 99% of all animals, they are "too stupid" to avoid eating things that are dangerous for them. (We as humans are too stupid as well.) That's why we are designed with a built-in mechanism for getting rid of toxins, i.e. vomiting. Keep a close watch on your turtle for the next couple days for any change in behavior. You can search the forum for a list, I'm sure I've seen people list out various plants in the past, but they are mostly water plants. What exactly was your turtle doing by your ivy plant?
