Under one of the scutes that's in the process of shedding? That's not good. If the scute looks like it's going to come off in a day or two, you are probably fine. Otherwise, you need to take action against the algae. You'll need to scrub the shell gently with a soft toothbrush daily, if not a few times a day, to make sure the algae doesn't stick to the shell. Also, check out your tank. Is it near a window? Has it been cleaned lately?

If the algae stays on the shell during the shedding process, it's can cause the new shell underneath to become damaged.

If there is algae there, it might mean the scute will shed soon. How long has it been like that?

I've noticed mine has had one for about a month. I can only imagine that it will be ready to come off soon.
