I've always looked at a RES as a mix of a snapper and a painted.


Anyways the Male RES found a new home today!!! He's living with a female the same size as him in a 210 gallon tank. I found a guy who rescues and takes turtles in.


So the painted is moving to the 55gallon and the two RES are moving to the 75 gallon.

It's really nice, Chirag, that your turts are getting along. Just continue to keep an eye on things.

And it's true that how well they get along depends on the individual turtles to a large extent. However, most people on here that have tried to keep two together say that eventually they fight. Sometimes they seem happy together for years then suddenly it starts.

The big factor working in your favor is probably the species you have. The most aggressive type is a RES. Those are the ones that are almost always the aggressors when species are combined. In your case, since neither is a RES, you may have better luck than most.

I totally agree with you before milton came along I had my RES with terrance and for a while it was ok then BANG i heard on the side of the tank and there was my RES biting terrance's foot, my heart broke for him and so that afternoon I decided to separate and keep terrance in my room and my RES in our heated pond everyone seems happy....even little milton

I've never had a turtle except for Spot, my RES, but I think I like his aggressive personality. He's lively and alert and interactive. He'd be a terrible room mate for another creature but as a pet he's a lot of fun.
