General Care Discussion :: problems with water hardness

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Sun Feb 08, 2009 9:43 pm   problems with water hardness

So recently I have discovered that the water I use to replace (and the current water in the tank) is very hard. The water I use to do water changes and such are straight from the garden hose or sometimes from the faucets inside the house.

How or what can I do to soften the water..possibly via solution I can buy or something along those lines. Any suggestions?

p.s. my filter isn't exactly up to par, but I am going to buy a Marineland 400 emperor soon for the turts.

any help would be greatly appreciated :D

You can get a reverse osmosis system, but that's pretty expensive. I googled it though and this is what I came up with:

Mind you, I don't know anything about it, so I'm not necessarily recommending it, but it's worth looking into.

sounds logical
I asked my dad, he has a saltwater aquarium, and he has all those expensive machines and stuff..well he's tried some of them.

he also mentioned some type of tablet?

I don't know haha
