Ok, so for a couple of months I noticed my girl turt was trying to nest. Here is what I had to do for 3 weeks!!
1. I made a nesting area for her. It was actually kind of cool and natural looking. But she didn't like the dirt and sand.
2. Woke up every morning at 5 AM because that is when she would start her kicking and making noise to get out of the tank. I would take her to her nest, and watch her. All she did was try to escape.
3. I would come home the same time every day because I knew she wanted to get out and make her nest, but she never did.
I even posted on this website for help. Then someone told me, her idea of natural habitat might be your bedroom, not the dirt. Since someone's turt laid eggs under a bean bag chair. So I let her walk around the entire first floor, but still nothing.
As any concerned mom, I took her to the vet to make sure I was doing everything I was supposed to be doing.
The vet told me, that she had no eggs in her, and could not explain the odd behavior. Since we actually took an x-ray of her, I never second guessed his diagnosis. But still the nesting behavior continued.
I even started to think she was crazy and just wanted attention!
And then 2 months later.... I came home late from work. It was a full moon, that big bright orange looking moon. I walk into our room. And there they were. 5 BIG, white, eggs in her tank!!!
At first I was in shock! After all the vet said there were no eggs in her!
Then I thought maybe my mom threw some weird food in the tank, but she hadn't been home all day.
So I came to process the idea that those were real eggs, and they came out of my Cortez. They laid there in the water probably all day.
I wrote the vet an email for several reasons:
1. His x-ray machine had to be broken!
2. If she retained the eggs, her internal organs could be injured
3. She could have more in her!
