General Care Discussion :: Adoption Help

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Fri Feb 27, 2009 6:38 pm   Adoption Help

Hello all, I am new to THIS forum, but I do have 3 western painted sliders. I have had them for 4 years now. I got them all together and they vary from 5.5" to 6.5". I have a friend that bought a RES and now cannot keep it. It is maybe 2"-2.5", I have plenty of room but I am worried if I will have any territorial issues or aggressive behaviors towards the RES if I put it with the others. Does anyone know if they will have an issue? Thanks for any help.

what setup do you currently have for your 3 turtles?

I think the RES is much to small to be around the three 5inch plus turtles, he would easily get pushed around and possibly die.

yea if you have 4 turtles you really should have a HUGE tank. and there probably will be more territorial issues the smaller your tank is.

While painteds are generally less aggressive than RES, it be helpful to know how large of a tank you have before considering whether this RES would be a good addition.

One point that hasn't been brought up yet is quarantine. Regardless of whether your tank is large enough, you'll want to quarantine ANY new turtles before adding him to your current population or at the very least get him vet checked first.

If you do get him, do you have a plan B in case he doesn't fit in the tank?
