General Care Discussion :: What to do with feeder fish that I don't want?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I know this is a silly question bought I have 5 rosy red minnows and I decided I don't want fish in there anymore. They just make the tank more dirty for the turtles. I didn't expect they would live so long and my friends don't want them. I feel bad. Any ideas?

Just leave em in the tank, theyll either eventually die or your turtle will eat em. Depending on the size of your tank 5 rosies shouldnt be makin it to messy.

hahaaha i've had times where the fish are too fast, too big, or the turtles just don't eat them..so I've done some crazy/funny/creative things to do with them

most of them are done out of boredom

-freeze them and see if they survive (fail)
-see how long they survive in some liquid besides water (fail)

haha other things.
dared my friend to swallow a live one, he did (I lost 5 dollars)

if you still want them, then keep them or something..if not then get creative haha

Freezing them is a great idea. Feed them to your turtles when treat time. Good Idea!! b.

They shouldn't be contributing to the waste, in fact, they will eat the turtle waste and keep your tank cleaner. Needless to say, be humane about anything you decide to do, don't intentionally kill them for no reason. Freezing them in about the most humane option, though still rather cruel, and only useful if your turtles will eventually eat them.

You may make a very nice quasi self sustaining habitat with a few minnows, a handfull of aquatic plants and an air bubbler. Throw in some fish flakes every few days and they will all thrive. Minimal cleaning required.
