just curious for those of you that take your turts outdoors--what do you use for containment so they don't escape forever??...i don't have a fenced in yard (though i don't think i'd trust most fences anyway) but i am interested in putting something together for outside time as it starts getting nice out...

During the summer, I have a ring of chicken wire held in the ground with crochet hoops. I just put them out there for about an hour, and then bring them back to their pond on the back porch.

You either need to watch him like a hawk (you're right - never trust a fence) or you can get him a little wading pool. If you use a little pool, be sure and provide some shade and a place for him to rest. Don't put so much water in it that he can escape. He needs to be where he's safe from dogs (and cats too if he's small). You'll still have to watch out for hawks, racoons and neighbors. Your turtle, however, will love it.

I rather like the small pool idea, I might have to do that for Niko this summer.
