Do RES have superior hearing? I caught one of them sleeping with both eyes shut..I was slowly about to approach it and it opened its eyes..it's happend a few times..are they very sensitive to vibrations or etc?
Actually their hearing is poor. I've read they can only hear low pitched sounds, and those not too well. It's their poorest sense.
What they can do is feel vibrations. Your turt probably felt you more than heard you approaching. Their eyesight is also very good. Perhaps they saw your shadow or movement behind their eyelids.
