General Care Discussion :: Super Pleco

The bottom of my tank was looking bare, so I decided to go and
get a pleco. It was only 1.5" long, about the size of my turtle, and
there didn't seem to be any problems with it. A couple of days ago,
though, I couldn't find him in in the tank so I assumed that my turtle
must have eaten it or something. After that, I looked on the ground
and the pleco was lying dead on the floor. I have no idea how it got
there because there are about 7" separating the top of the tank and the
surface of the water. I also have an island in the middle of the tank but
it is only a couple of inches out of the water. Can plecos jump that high
or did my turtle have something to do with it?

Pleco's can jump pretty high, I bet Kobi was chasing him and he jumped out.
I make sure too have a good secure lid on my fish tank too keep my pleco in lol

I hadn't thought of the pleco jumping out of the tank. Guess I better get that lid on!

I might decide to get some corys instead.

Any idea if they will need a lid?

I have cories in my tropical community tank, and they often flit to the top of the water and back down again- i wouldnt put it past them to jump out as well.

Ive had a largeish tetra-shark fishy in with my turts for months now, no issues, no flitting, then just a few days ago, come home from work, and there he is all dried out on the floor.

when it comes to fish- assume for the worst, that way youre covered. <just like the tank >

you never know when the water quality/oxygenation/circulation may not be quite to your fishies taste and they get a lil rambunctious.

my lesson has been learned.
