General Care Discussion :: Our Aquarium..To Move or Not to Move??

I have 2 RES who are currently in my daughter's room. I am contemplating moving them out to the living room because they are so much fun to watch. The only worry I have is that everytime someone walks into my daughter's room they both run for the hills and hide. Will it be too stressful for them to be in the living room where there is constant activity?

my turtle was in a 10 gallon tank hidden in the upstairs bedroom at my neices house for his first 4 years or so. when i got him i put him in my office which is the busiest room in the house. he was a bit skittish at first, now nothing bothers him. he's laying on his dock right now watching me type. so my opinion is go ahead and move them, give them some time to adjust and i say they will be fine. this is my first turtle so i may have gotten lucky with him being so social.

I agree with CB.. they'll get used to having people in the room

Most turtles are skittish, especially in a new environment. It is their survival instinct and they will do it for a while. When we come home they are exposed to all traffic and will calm down after a while. Mine can tell when the white noise is not us and will take a dive when stranger comes in the house. Mine will come to the glass when I enter the room as I am their food source. You may try and feed the by hand for a while and they will get the message. M.

You could put something around the bank where the basking area is, at least for a while, to give them some privacy when they bask and help keep them from jumping off basking area when they see movement.
