General Care Discussion :: A weird tendon? I guess you could call it.

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Sun May 17, 2009 11:44 pm   A weird tendon? I guess you could call it.

Okay, so my turtle, Larry, who i've thought this whole time has been a girl, but after visiting this site realize she might be a boy (I checked for her gender too early I suppose), was living very swimmingly (lol).

Anywho, I was sitting next to her tank, playing my xbox, and I look over, and see a big brown, mushroom shaped THING sitting under Larry. She was simple floating in one spot, and didnt seem to notice it. Though I look closer to realize this big brown mushroom shaped thing (about 1/4 the size of the shell) is connected by a regular colored greenish tendon to the little hole in her tail.

I got kinda scared, especially after she retracted the thing into her. I was wondering if anyone knew what it was? I didn't have time to get a pic, because it retracted a few seconds after I looked at it.

I'm seriously questioning if it was just a little "excited-ness" from a boy turtle that I thought was a girl. But it seemed to big for my turtle (i mean the tendon was skinny, and the shroom thing was 1/4 the shell) and it just sucked back into her/his body..

Any help :/

Oh yes. Larry is appropriately named.

Congratulations! You've got a boy!

We all go through shock the first time our male turtles show their stuff. It is pretty spectacular.

haha thats funny. I had the same thing happen a few weeks ago. I never really doubted that my turtle was a male cause his talons are like half an inch long, but one day he was swimming around with a huge boner for like half the day, i was like sheesh have some decency.

I've never seen my turtles penis, but come on is it really necessary to ask what "the big brown mushroom shaped thing (about 1/4 the size of the shell) is connected by a regular colored greenish tendon to the little hole in her tail " is??!!!
