General Care Discussion :: Two turtles coexist okay?

If I get another type of turtle instead of my current baby red eared slider, maybe a painted turtle or w/e at the pet store. If I were to get another baby turtle would it be fine for them to live in the same tank? Also the requirements are the same right? (Same turtle food, basking area, water temperature)

Just as long as there the same size they should do fine together. Everything will be the same. Just tank size doubles with an added turtle.

You might want to keep the new one separate for a while, like, 90 days, to make sure the new turtle doesn't have any sicknesses it could give your current turtle.

Also, if you decide to introduce them, put them all in the tank at the same time after a routine tank cleaning. That way, the chances of them fighting over territory are diminished. Just note that they will nip at each other, or chase each other around, to decide who is in charge. If the nipping and chasing gets out of hand, you will have to separate them.

Also, maybe you could introduce them in a neutral playing field, like the tank you put your turtle in while you clean their regular tank that they live in. Your turt hasn't had enough time to really say that extra, temporary tank is theirs.

I like the idea of a neutral playing field. Give them a few encounters before the real deal move.
