The little baby I was trying to rescue, passed away this weekend. I feel bad but this turtle was in very bad shape when I pulled him out of the water his shell was soft as a sponge. I invested 250 dollars in this effort but he was too sick. I will clean the setup up and either put it in storage or get another turtle(male this time). I have a 200 gal tank(Cocao's old tank) and then the 20 gal and Cocoa's tank, so who knows. Can't save them all. I suspect he was sick from cold temps and no UV exposure except the last three weeks of his life. MBD was probably the main killer and then he had to also have a respitory infection. Well, time to clean that tank out really well. Good luck to all you with a sick turtle with some luck everything will be ok.

I'm glad you were willing to do something so sweet. A person is a person, no matter how small.

I'm sorry for your loss, at least this little one comfortable and well cared for.

Yep! I have had a few hatchlings go by the wayside because of mbd and RI also. They need the metabolism going to fight the RI and when that is not up to par they die. I would say that a number them die because of that. m.

Thanks all. It is hard but we most move on and learn for the mistakes. Thats what it is all about, helping make it a better world for all living creatures

I don't think you made any mistakes, so don't be so hard on yourself. You did everything you could, and sometimes, animals (including humans) give up the will to live. That is their choice.

There may have been something going on too that neither you, or any vet could have noticed. I've noticed over the years that certain species tend to know things about their anatomy, and are more in tune with what's physically going on inside themselves than humans are. (Maybe it's because humans have more things to worry about than animals in the wild).
