I put in some new water and i put in too much dechloriniser.

i have this little bubble thing that sits at the bottom of the tank

and its making a big layer of bubbles on the water ever sense i put too much dechloriniser

The seem to like hiding under the bubbles. But im concerned it might not be healthy for them too have too much in there. should i change the water again?

I would replace the water, or do a 50% water change at least. In the process, also take out that gravel that you have on the bottom of the tank. As your turtle gets big enough, s/he will eat that gravel and it can kill him/her.

ive been planning on getting rid of the gravel but they need to get on the basking platform until i can find something better for them to get some grip with

No they dont. Turtles are great climbers. Even when small. Besides, there is a ramp on the dock.

Get rid of the gravel today.

I wouldnt be too worried about too much dechlor, but, like said above, do a water change.

Yeah, if you know how much extra you added, just remove that much. So if you think you put in like 25% too much, do a 25% water change, or up to 50% water change. Then just don't add any in for this batch of water.

Check out the sticky about gravel. If you don't remove it ASAP, they will eat it, which with smaller turtles can cause serious blockages quickly. It can cause blockages in bigger turtles too, but smaller turtles would only need to really eat one piece. You may also notice that they poo out the gravel for months afterwards, so just grab what you see come out!

The rule on the board is not to put anything not edible in the tank that is smaller than your turtle's head. Remember that smaller turtles grow, so if you don't want to replace what you get, get these river rocks, you can get them at craft stores, Walmart, pet stores, tons of places. They should run about $2-5 per bag, so just look for a deal!

Just curious---did you clean or change the media at all? Sometimes dirty media can contribute to frothy bubbles.

Snif- I don't know how much it too much, but, I agree with Poo-poo. Do a 50% water change and see where you are from there. Good luck and read the directions next time. The water quality is a basic and can get out of the safe range slowly and get past you. m.

The only reason I got those big glass stones was because my turtles enjoy digging and walking across the bottom of the tank. They kept slipping, so, this seems to help that.

If you want the bottom of the tank to be aesthetically pleasing, then get fine grain sand. There's several different kinds, like fine grain play sand or aragonite sand, which has calcium in it. I haven't used either, because I just choose not too.

Edit: I would definitely do a 50% water change, so, you don't lose your dechloriniser.

I haven't been on here for awhile but just letting you know i did a full tank clean a few days ago and removed gravel.
