The pet store folks usually know enough about habitat requirements, but as far as diseases... Yeah, you might as well give up there. They know enough to get you started on a new pet, but beyond that, it's rare if they know more.

For example, no one at my store can tell me why my BLACK MOOR turned solid orange in a matter of three months.

Over the last year one of my goldfish went from orange/white to all orange and the other was speckled and is now turning all black/little orange.

I assumed it was normal, my bala sharks as they age are turning from sliver to black.

imagine being tossed in the air arms and legs flailing, landing hard in a dark place, confused, extremely sick,and hearing some freako dude chuckling to himself. horrible. if you were in that position what would you think?

No they don't.

I've been in a lot of different pet stores, and asked questions about both turtle and snake care, to see what they say. They usually give me temperatures that are too warm, they have never mention UVB to me. I found out about UVB lighting from a co-worker of mine, before I even went to the pet store.

These stores seriously cram about, six to eight snakes and turtles into one tank. The lighting is usually very poor. There are a variety of reasons why several reptiles shouldn't live together in such crammed conditions. If one gets sick, they ALL can get sick. I doubt they bother to quarantine these animals. The other issue is, reptiles aren't great at living together, especially snakes. They will kill each other over territory, or die from stress.

I hate when they keep snakes which typically climb, in horizontal tanks, with branches on the floor. Even ball pythons enjoy climbing around. (My father's friend had a really cool tank for a foot long ball python. It was very pretty, as well as very functional).

I wish PETA would think like you. They believe humans are beneath non-human species... Why can we all just be equal?

Sheldon i love all my pets, but saying they're "the same as humans" is pushing it a little too far.
Humans are humans, and pets are pets.That's the way it is, and should always be.

I am appalled and heartbroken [but, sadly, not surprised] by this. Repulsive!! As others said, either treat it or put it down humanely. All animals can feel pain. Ugh.

I'm with the fist to the face crowd also on this.



I got my turtle from a pet store but it's a little independant store, not a big chain store, and they don't normally carry turtles but someone had it for 7 years and was moving and brought it to the store, asking them to take it so they did. pet stores are horrid places usually, I'm sorry you had to see this.

That employee is a POS! I hope he's chucked just like that when he gets sick!

The turtle ought to either have vet care or be euthanized as quickly and kindly as possible.

Where is this place? What's the "Aquarium"??? You should have fun reporting how bad they treat animals there to everyone.

The pet store I bought my turtle from kept two turtles in one 3 gal tank with hardly any water. Just enough water to get themselves wet. I bought one of the turtles in that small tank, but every time I go to that store I feel bad for that other turtle. I really wish I could buy it to give it a better home. I also wish I could ask the store to put him in a bigger tank, but from what I've looked around and seen, they don't have any.
