General Care Discussion :: Little red worms

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I was completely changing the water and pulling all the rocks out of my tank today when I came accross a few little red worms. Has anyone else come accross these? Any clue if they're bad? I don't even know where they could have come from.

Got a picture of them? They could be midge (mosquito larve), something that came in on aquatic plants, if you have them or even from live fish if you feed them to your turtles. If they were white, they could be planaria (harmless) from debris in the tank (which those rocks will trap).

I'd clean well, rinse with hot water and see if they come back.

I haven't found them in my filter, but then again I haven't looked either....I can't figure out anything these would come from other than possible the tap water?

from the tap water? I don't think so.. but I didn't see the red worms in the tank.. I saw it when I want to clean the filter i.e the media.. mostly found at the sponge.. but then they died suddenly after I rinsed with the tap water.. maybe they live in the dirty water... hm..
