I WAS READING A TOPIC AND REPLIES AND IT HAD SAID THAT VITASHELL IS NO GOOD FOR TURLTE...IS THIS TRUE AND IF SO WHY????
MOMMY OF TURTLE FOR FOUR YRS...BUT VERY CLUELESS TRYING LEARN MORE ABOUT HIM...

I think it's because the shell needs to "breathe". The product covers the shell,
making it unable to. In the end, it causes more harm than good.

Best things for healthy shell are good food and adequate basking.

Perhaps it's a different case for tortoise (land turtle).

I think it would be the same for a land turtle. The shell, as Kemul said, needs to breathe. The product is oil based and will clog it.

I just read this post and i bought this product for my turt Fiona about 3-4 weeks ago.. when i fist got her i applied it to her but because she was shedding i stopped because it was so hard to apply with everything pealing.. will this hurt her and what should i do? she seems to be shedding more and more as the days go on.. i think shes been in her shedding mode since i got her(3 weeks ago..is that normal for them to shed for so long?).. is she going to be ok? should i wash her shell with something?? im throwing that away as soon as i get home from work... please reply now that i am worried :/

When I put the vitashell on I dry docked her for a few hours. It's like conditioner--you have to leave it on. Honestly I couldn't tell a difference in her shell though. I think the one thing that's made a huge difference is the mercury vapor bulb.

The shedding will be easier and probably happen sooner if you don't use it. The length of time for shedding to be completely can vary---I've had turtles do it in less than a week and turtles that took a few months.
