General Care Discussion :: Unnamed hatchling with black spots on shell

My girlfriend and I just got this little guy at a Flea Market today, I liked him because of his distinct markings, but I'm hoping some experienced people will be able to tell me if they are just natural markings on his shell or if they're something else that could be bad?

He's doesn't have a name yet, so suggestions for names would be welcomed as well.

it looks like its the shell pattern. i wouldn't worry about it unless it started making your turtle act differently. i wouldn't worry much about it

another thing, get rid of that gravel. use big stones. they will most likely eat the gravel.

keep updating on sudden changes if there are any

My two RES have the same spots, I believe it is normal shell color.

I'd also recommend losing the substrate, bigger rocks will do fine and can't be eaten by your new buddy. I'd also lose the marbles, I thought of putting some in my tank, but I don't want any glass chips/shards to be in the tank. Turtles love to dig, throw things, re-arrange their tank and just push stuff around.

I like to name my turtles after things they remind me of.. or food. Try something cute and unique, catchy and fitting.

We're working on getting rid of the gravel, the marbles are already gone.

As far as the name we're still hung up. We actually have 2 RES one is named Sheldon but we havent come up with something catchy for our other little guy. We had 4 names Butters, Pickles, Webster, and Filbert, but not really set on any of them. Any more creative names out there?

How about naming this one George? George is a cute name ^___^

Oh, and the marbles can stay in the tank. Aside from them being too big to eat, some turtles like pushing them around.

You can name them after famous people if you want. Or bands or countries or whatever. How about Gitfiddle?

Yes, Sheldon and the still unnamed turtle are sharing a turtle dock under a uvb light and a heat lamp in our new 100 gallon tank.
