Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

So i was on vacation last july in myrtle beach, SC and ended up bringing home a RES. My girlfriend wanted one so you know how that goes. Neither of us had any clue about raising a turtle. It was the size of a half dollar maybe and we eventually bought a tank and all was good. Now a little over a year later i have found that we are feeding him very badly. First i started with pellets, he never ate one so i went to the pet store and bought the little krill shrimpy looking things. Myrtle loved those and that has been his diet once a day since august of 2008. I had no idea that the krill was only suppose to be a snack every once in a while. Now over the last few days i have tried to soak the pellets in tuna fish juice and throw in a little red leaf luttuce, but he has not eaten anything since i stoped with the krill. What do i do? Anyone have any tricks? Should i try guppies or worms? Thanks in advance. BTW Myrtle is a little over a year old i believe and a little over 3 inches.

RES will eat pellets sooner or later. Just do half pellets and half krill for now. Also what type of pellets did you purchase? Try reptomin.

Thanks, yeah and i see you are from PA (rsour24)! Ha but yeah, myrtle beach... naming your turtle myrtle, not too unique but fitting. I'm not sure if fresh prince was making fun of us or what but it's all good. And i do feed him/her reptomin.

If he's healthy, you can try the tough love approach. Feed him nothing but pellets and veggies for a period of time (at least a week), and he'll eventually be hungry enough to eat them. I wouldn't feed half krill and half pellets, because he'll just eat the krill.

I agree with bull dog, right now my RES are only eating pellets, they're just about to reach 3 inches, I never thought about feeding them krill until just now but I want to make sure they get all the protein that they need.
