This is more just a "What is my turtle doing when he does this" question. I have Pepe's basking light hooked up to a timer so I don't have to worry about turning it on and off every day. So, every morning, when I get up, Pepe is on his turtle ledge basking since the light is already on when I get up. But, whenever I walk into the living room, he immediately and quite suddenly jumps into the water and swimming around like crazy.

Am I startling him when he sees me walk in the room??? What is he doing????

it happens all the time. my turtles are about 2 years old and they do the same thing. its not much to worry about you just spooked them thats all

What you're seeing is normal behavior.

my turtle is now at the point where if i walk in my room he will stay there basking but if i get too close its right for the water

some turtles will never bask infront of people, others have no problem

I see. I guess I felt bad if I was startling him every morning. But, at least it's normal.
