General Care Discussion :: Is this calcium build up, fungus - or what?

Hey guys,

Finally got my turtles back, my friend was taking care of them for sometime as my current living conditions I could not have them - but alas, they're back!

When I got them back I noticed a pale whiteish/greenish build up on their shells/underbelly a little. I'm not to sure what this is, or what it is from.

I have a feeling my turtles went without properly UVB/UVA lighting for while, as when I checked which lights they had when I got them back, they were just regular florescent. Since then i've added a nice MVP bulb for them.

Still unsure what this stuff is, if it will go away by having proper lighting now, or if it will need special care.

Looks like fungus to me. I'd say you need to make sure they can bask all they want and are shedding regularly. You will need to visit a vet if you want a prescription of silver sulfadiazine which can be very effective against fungus.

So i've dry docked both of them, going to keep them there for a few hours (4?) per day.

I can tell they don't exactly like it though, and I really need to keep an eye on them...they've managed to flip themselves over a few times already!

Can't you make sure they have a good basking option in their tank? I wouldn't dry-dock them unless you were applying meds.

Gotcha, but from what I can tell - they do have a good dock. Easy access, they never have issues getting up into it, tempuratures where it should be, nice and secluded as well.
