General Care Discussion :: RES eating "turtle dock" by Zoo Med.

My RES has been biting off pieces of his Zoo Med turtle dock. I don't think he is actually swallowing them, b/c it appears that some have turned up in the filter. What are the causes of this? Is he bored? hungry? What should I do? Has anyone else experienced this?

any suggestions or insight anyone might have is greatly appreciated!

Welcome. If you haven't, try putting some head-sized pieces of cuttlebone in the tank for him to nibble on. If he continues biting the dock, though, it would be good to try another kind.

Odd. My little gal has taken quite a liking to eating her turtle dock these days as well. I tossed her a cuttlebone; she likes it, but still likes the dock better.

I know that doesn't address your concern, other than to let you know that another turtle "thinks" like yours.

My 'baby' girl is so big I have to use two turtle docks (stacked) to keep her afloat. She's been tearing up the older one (it's a few years old) and the newer one is intact. So, I'm thinking the older one may be an easy target because of its age. I'm gonna get a new one...I'll let you know if it resolves anything.

My turtles try to bite at most things in the tank but they can't get a piece out of floating basking islands (not zoomed tho). I can't remember the brands.
