How often do RES's shed and why does my little guy seem to always shed a lot around his back legs??? Any help would be appreciated!

My res shed their skin around every 2 weeks.

with skin they usually do that. those little flakes are their skin. its common

The amount they shed there skin can change due to a couple things. Warmer water temps, how many pellets your feeding them.

Both those can increase the amount your turtle sheds.

scutes are the fallen off pieces of the shell. turtles shed their "scutes" as they grow.
