General Care Discussion :: Water: Perfect, to "skim milk" overnight?

Hey guys,

Most bizzare thing happened over the course of 8 hours last night.

It was getting late and my turtles timer for lights were about to go off in 10 minutes - So I was eating a banana and ionly wanted half...so I gave my turtles 1/2 a banana (split in two, one peice for each)

..They didnt seem to like it, and avoided it.

So I went to bed, I wake up in totally shock. My water was near perfect last night...crystal clear! Now it...is sooo cloudy you can't see from the front of the tank to back, it looks like skim milk!

Now, filter appears to be running just fine as well as all my other equipment. Now, of course i'll be changing the water now...but - Is this realistic? Can this really happen from 1/2 a banana in a 90 gallon tank? Or is there some sort of other mysterious thing happening?

Any ideas guys?

Its the banana. Never feed big chunks to them. The oils and the juice from the banana leaks out plus the water speeds the leakage.

1/2 banana is a lot. If you didn't take it out after you saw they didn't eat it it will def. make a mess of the water.

Lesson learned...darn it! LOL time for a full tank drainage

Not really, as part of the diet anyway. I sometimes give my RES a few very thin slices and he loves them. They're high in phosphorus, which is already abundant in their diet.
