General Care Discussion :: can my turtle still grow? 7 years old

hi, i've had my turtle for a little over a year now, i adopted her from my brothers friend last year, and she was kept in those big plastic containers, like the kinds hatchlings come in but bigger, it was just big enough for her to move around a little, and today i've asked my brothers friend how old the turtle was and he said she was 7 years old.

i've heard that turtles wont grow if they're stuck in an environment not big enough for them to grow, shes in a huge tank now, i was wondering if she could still grow? even if she cant, i dont mind, but would this give her any health issues?? shes about 5 1/2 inches shell length. he said he never let her out of the water neither, only "sometimes"

i have uva and uvb light for her now, but her past was pretty bad, i dont know if i have anything to worry about? thanks.

It's possible for her to still grow. It is false that turtles will only grow to fit their containers. Improper nutrition and lack of proper lighting can stunt growth (among other things). I think only time will tell for sure if she will get bigger. As long as she's healthy, size doesn't matter

RES are remarkable survivors. If you've had her for over a year, then you're past all the potential complications from living in an improper environment.

The size of the environment does not limit the size your turtle can grow to but it will dictate the rate at which your turtle will grow.
