Today my son asked me where our 4th goldfish went. He had a point - the thing has totally disappeared overnight - not a trace of it is left. Is it possible our three RES that are each approximately three months old could have consumed it without leaving any trace (maybe with the help of the other goldfish)?

I'm gonna have to say: yes. RES's of any age are veracious omnivorous and their thousands of years of ingrained instincts will prevail.

How large was the goldfish in question? The ghost shrimp I tossed in a few days ago only lasted a matter of hours. I've had a little more success with the feeder fish but they usually meet their demise within a few days. (My RES's are roughly the same age/size as yours.) I'd say if your son likes his fish then the best idea would be to house them separately as they will continue to disappear.

1 RES - Tomi (75 gal)
1 Leopard Gecko - Leia (20 gal)
2 Fancy goldfish, 1 bn pleco (40 gal breeder)

Wow, I figured this would happen, but not so soon! This is why we didn't name the fish! I also thought I saw a little chomp out of one of the rear fins on another fish. Suspicions confirmed!

Our RES has eaten our snail, 2 Koi, lots of Red wiggler worms and about 14 Rosie Red Minnows. Ours is about 4" and the Koi were at least 5" long.

My 2 RES and Southern Painted turtle LOVE gold fish, and as morbid as it can seem they are a lot of fun to watch eat fish. I put live fish in mine about once a month. However the last time they didnt eat them all so now I have goldfish triving in my tank. Its a lot of fun to watch!!!

I think it would be kinda neat to see as well, sort of like when our frogs chase down crickets. I was just surprised that the goldfish was suddenly gone, without a trace. I asked the turtles what happened, but they are staying tight-lipped about it! LOL
