So yesterday morning I decided to do a water change because I am still waiting on my tank to cycle. I got everything clean and the tank filled back up. I decided to test my filter before putting Capone and Shelby back in their home and realized my filter had burned up. I had a fluval 3+ but it wasnt doing a very good job anyways. I had to rig up my hanging filter, it looked real ghetto.
So we take off to the next town and got to petco and ended up buying the cascade 1000, which is what I was wanting to begin with. After we get back home, my wife told me that there was glass in the tank and we needed to hurry up and get the turtles out. So I did ANOTHER water change and got everything hooked back up, the tank looks great now.
I guess what had happened was when I rigged up the hanging filter some water splashed up on the heat bulb causing it to explode. It might not had been too much of an issue but I had recently cut a hole in my screen top to help regulate the temp of the basking area.
I didnt realize how much work and the cost of owning turtles until I found this website but it is definetely worth it. We have had turtles for 2 months now and I must admit, yesterday was a helluva day!
